Track Meet at Bedford

April 25, 2018

The meet at Bedford North Lawrence High School took place on April 19th and was an invitational to freshman and sophomores participating in track and field. Although Seymour did not win this meet, all the coaches are proud of the team for working hard and for the many runners and throwers beating their personal records that night. Whilst the coaches were handing out ribbons the next day at practice Coach Spencer had plenty of encouraging comments for the girls.

“A lot of PRs were broken last night… We are all very proud and know we will be ready for regionals, sectionals and state.” said Spencer. It is clear that the effort has been put into by the athletes and it has paid off; it has been paying off; it will continue to pay off in the future. As previously mentioned, a lot of PRs (personal records) were broken. A discus thrower, Ashley Trujillo, broke her PR that night at Bedford along with a middle distance/long distance runner Elizabeth Hougland.

The following questions were answered by Ashley in a brief interview.

Q: What is your PR in discus?

A: 81 feet exact.

Q: What is the next goal you’re setting for yourself?

A: My next goal is to become better than I am now.

Q: Any words of encouragement or advice for your teammates?
A: Work on form. Keep trying your hardest and keep believing in yourself.

The following questions were answered by Lizzie in a brief interview.
Q: What is your PR on the mile?
A: 6:32

Q: What is the next goal you’re setting for yourself?
A: 6:15

Q: Any words of encouragement or advice for your teammates?A: Just keeping moving forward and pushing to get better.

It is imperative for the girls and boys in Track to give it their all and motivate each other along the way. It may not always result in a win, but there is always the effort that was made by each individual that will eventually contribute to the entire team. Details are the only qualities left to fix as the season is coming to an end, but with the help of each other and the coaches it will be possible for the team to elevate a little higher in order to achieve plenty more wins.
