College football is back and everyone is ready. CFB fans had to wait 234 days just to see another football game. Fans love CFB for many reasons, for the history, and the rivalries, and the fans have a deeper connection to their team. And all of those reasons are why CFB is one of the most loved sports in the US.
CFB’s “Week 0” started on August 26th, and Saturday, September 2nd will be very busy. Many ranked teams are playing on September 2nd, and fans can finally get back to watching football. Over 20 ranked teams will be playing on September 2nd, and it will be a great Saturday for any sports fan. You can expect records in TV viewers on Saturday.
There have been a lot of interesting stories this CFB off-season, a record 8,700 players entered the transfer portal this year. That number is a 5.5% increase over last year’s record-setting number, and more than double the tally from the inaugural 2018-2019 cycle (4,076). Teams like Colorado lost over 55 players to the portal, but they also gained 50 players due to coaching changes.
Conference realignment has really shaken everything up. In fact, over 15 teams have changed conferences for the upcoming season, and the next CFB season already has 10 teams planning to move conferences. This might mess up some rivalries, but it will definitely not mess up people’s love for CFB. Even with all of the changes going on in CFB, it will be a really unique season.
Preseason rankings are very important, and the rankings this year are basically the same as last season. All of the final four from last season are ranked top 4: #1 Georgia, #2 Michigan, #3 Ohio State, #4 Alabama. And the back-to-back champions Georgia are the favorites to win the College Football National Championship. And personally, I think that Alabama will win their 19th National Championship and dominate CFB this season.
Now, let’s get into the local team that really matters, the Purdue Boilermakers. They lost one of their best head coaches of all time, Jeff Brohm who now coaches the Louisville Cardinals, but gained a really appealing coach Ryan Walters. Ryan Walters has already changed Purdue football for the better because he has altered the recruiting methods, and now, transfers and recruits are more likely to commit to Purdue. And apart from the players they get, they are looking very solid this season. I predict that their record will be 8-4, and they will make their 3rd bowl game in a row. College football is finally back and fans are ready.
