Week 1 of NFL football is over, and there is a lot to take away from it. From huge upsets to 40-point blowouts, week 1 had everything you need. And this week had many other great stories; let’s get into them.
Let’s start with Thursday night football. The Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Detroit Lions, and it was a thriller that came down to the final minutes. The Chiefs were up 14-7 at halftime when the Lions tied it up with a pick-six in the 3rd quarter. Then, after two made FG’s by the Chiefs, they led 20-14 with 12:00 left in the 4th quarter. After a great drive by the Lions, they ended up in the end zone with 7:06 left. The Lions’ defense didn’t allow another point to be scored. After many disappointing drops by the Chiefs’ wide receivers, the Lions came out on top 21-20.
Upsets: The Browns upset the Bengals 24-3, after being a 1.5-point underdog. It’s not much, but the Browns are a team to be reckoned with. Deshaun Watson is still not back to his old self, but he is getting there. Nick Chubb was unstoppable, and he could have a breakout season.
The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears played on Sunday, and the Bears were 1.5-point favorites. But the Packers had other plans, Jordan Love and the Packers beat the Bears 38-20. Jordan Love looked great in his first start as the QB1 for Green Bay, throwing 15-27, with 245 yards and 3 passing touchdowns. Packers RB Aaron Jones had a shaky first half, but in the second half, he ran for 1 touchdown and caught a 35-yard touchdown. Could Jordan Love be the future of the Packers?
Games of the Week: Dolphins vs. Chargers; This game had the most combined points out of any game in week 1. The Dolphins had great performances from a few players, one of them including QB Tua Tagovailoa. He threw for 466 yards, the 4th most in week 1 history, and along with that, he had 3 passing touchdowns. Tyreek Hill had 215 receiving yards with 2 touchdowns on the side, one of the most dominating performances we have seen in a while. Hill also caught the game-winning TD with 1:45 left in the 4th quarter. The Chargers didn’t play badly by any means, but they just couldn’t get the job done.
Cowboys vs. Giants: Only one team scored over 40 points, and only one team scored 0 points. They were both in this game, the Cowboys played phenomenal defense to win by an astounding 40-0. The Cowboys defense accounted for 2 touchdowns, 7 sacks, and 2 interceptions. Cowboys RB Tony Pollard scored 2 touchdowns, with 70 rushing yards to along.
Monday Night Football: Jets vs. Bills; This game had so much drama, only 4 snaps in, Jets QB Aaron Rodgers went down to the ground with a painful leg injury. The Jets believe that the injury could be an Achilles injury, which would take him out for the rest of the season. That could’ve been the last time we ever saw Aaron Rodgers on a football field. But no need to worry, Zach Wilson came to the rescue. He threw a clutch touchdown with 4 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. Jets RB Breece Hall who went down with a season-ending ACL tear last season, came back with vengeance on his mind. He had 10 rushes for 127 yards, including an 83-yard rush from the 4-yard line. The Jets ended up winning 22-16 from a 65-yard punt return in OT.
Lots of great games and great stories happened in week 1 of the NFL season. There is still so much more football to be played, so let’s hope all of the weeks are as great as week 1.

That injury looked nasty, hope Aaron Rodgers can recover.
