The Hoosier Hills released its football All-Conference teams last week, and Seymour had six players make the list.
Earning First-Team All-Conference for the Owls were Bret Perry, Jaylan Johnson, Jack Pennington, and Kyle Hileman. Earning HHC honorable mentions and Second Team were Owen Kruse and Evan Royer.
Seymour’s offense was great this season, and the awards just topped off the record-breaking success. Seymour was 6-5, and 4-2 in the Hoosier Hills Conference. They placed third in the HHC, including a huge win over the crosstown rivals, the Brownstown Braves.
Quarterback Bret Perry had a historical season. Finishing the year with 3387 passing yards and rushing for 203 yards, Perry passed for 41 touchdowns and rushed for 6. Perry led the state of Indiana in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Along with leading Indiana in passing yards, Perry was 25th in the entire country in passing yards.
Jaylan Johnson led the team in receiving yards with 960 yards and 9 touchdowns. Johnson is only a junior and will have another year to pile on more amazing stats. Johnson was 16th in receiving yards for Indiana and will only be looking to improve more.
Senior Jack Pennington led the team in receiving touchdowns with 15 and was 2nd in receiving yards with 949 yards. He led the team with 64 receptions and was a main target for Perry. Pennington was 19th in Indiana for receiving yards and was also top-20 in receiving touchdowns in Indiana.
Kyle Hileman was the final first-team All-Conference player for the Owls. Hileman was 47th in Indiana for receiving yards with 738 yards, along with 9 receiving touchdowns. Hileman was a part of one of the most dominant offenses in Indiana, and to have 738 yards while having two All-Conference wide receivers to play along with is insane.
The two HHC honorable mention players include OL Owen Kruse and DL Evan Royer. Royer led the team with four sacks and 18 tackles for loss of yards. And Kruse was great on the line the entire year, keeping Perry from being sacked, and allowing him to throw for a huge number of yards. These were two very underrated players who deserve to be known.
Seymour Football had a successful season, and even though we couldn’t finish with a title, Seymour is very proud of this team. Fans can’t wait until next season, and congratulations to all of the All-Conference honorees. Owls Will.
