The Seymour Owls face the Brownstown Braves on Friday, December 1st at Seymour High School. The Owls have beaten Corydon Central and Columbus North, and the Braves have beaten Providence and Salem. Seymour defeated Corydon Central by a score of 52-48 and defeated Columbus North by a score of 60-50. Brownstown defeated Providence by a score of 68-55 and beat Salem 74-25.
The Owls will be looking to pull off a huge upset against the Braves, but that won’t be easy. Brownstown has one of the best players in the state of Indiana, Jack Benter. Benter is a 6’4 senior committed to the Purdue Boilermakers in the class of 2024. Benter scored 33 points against Providence and also scored 23 points against Salem. Benter is going to be a match-up problem for the Owls, as the tallest starter for Seymour is 6’2 Jaylan Johnson. Benter is the current front-runner for Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year.
The Seymour Owls will be trying to start the season off hot, a 3-0 start would move the Owls up the rankings. Seymour has been led by juniors Jaylan Johnson and Brady Harpe. Seymour lost a lot of seniors last season and has started on the right foot this season. Hopefully, the Owls can pull off the upset and defeat the Brownstown Braves. The Owls have the home-court advantage, and in the last time these two played at Seymour, the Owls lost in an overtime thriller. The gym will be packed, and the fans will be loud, so let’s show up, and be loud for our Owls.
