History was made on Friday night. The Seymour Owls have won the HHC conference for the first time in school history. The Owls defeated Floyd Central 49-28 to advance to 13-4 and 5-1 in conference play.
Seymour joined the HHC conference in 1998, and since then they have never won the conference. The Owls only have a share of the conference, but if Jeffersonville loses one more HHC game, Seymour wins the HHC outright. Seymour has not had a great history in the HHC, only having a positive record once since 2007, and now they have two in the last three seasons.
Seymour’s victory over Floyd Central was long awaited, losing 12 straight since 2012. Seymour’s leading scorers were Brady Harpe with 22 points and Jaylan Johnson with 16 points. The Owls played a hard-fought game, and after Floyd kept it close for the first three quarters, the Owls went on a 16-3 run. After the final buzzer, the Seymour Student Section rushed the court to celebrate.
Seymour is not done with its reign over the HHC conference, they are led by juniors Brady Harpe and Jaylan Johnson who will return next season and try to repeat as champs. The Owls season is nowhere near over, they have five regular season games remaining and then the postseason begins. The Kirk Manns defense is suffocating and the offense has improved since the beginning of the season. This team may be well built for a postseason run, and with the home Sectional game it looks promising for a few wins come tournament time.
Let’s support the Owls in their final five games of the season, and have a huge showing for the Sectionals.
