Comedian Larry David faces backlash after his decision to violently grab “Sesame Street” icon
Elmo Throttled by Comedian Larry David

On Feburary 1st, NBC’s The Today Show hosted Elmo and his mother after his post on X (formally twitter) asking how everyone was doing went viral.  The post even got President Biden to respond saying, “I know how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days. Our friend Elmo is right.” Overall Elmo was speaking on how important mental health is and how to check on it. During the broadcast, Larry David appeared from behind and violently grabed and throttled Elmo in front of his own mother, leaving The Today Show hosts all shocked.  One host, Savannah Guthrie, exclaimed, “Larry you’ve gone too far this time!” Larry then responded, “Someone had to do it!”

Over the course of the day, the clip went viral and many gave backlash to Larry for his actions, one of them being T-Pain who said, “I know I just didn’t see my man Elmo being attacked on TV.” As the day progressed Larry had apologized for his actions, and later on the Today show said, “Elmo, I just want to apologize.” While still getting backlash, Larry had to appear on Late Night with Seth Meyers. When Larry finally appeared he  was grilled with questions.

Seth Myers interrogated saying, “The clip is going around online, Larry. You can’t hide from this…Elmo, some might say, is loved by all.” David responded, “Yeah, yeah. I did it,” Larry explained he was waiting for his interview and Elmo kept talking about mental health, Larry said,”I had to listen to every word. And I was going ‘oh my God, oh my God, I don’t think I can take another second of this!'” Larry then said he had gotten up from his chair and then approached to throttle him.

David then wisecracked saying,”And you know what? I would do it again!”

Larry had been making press rounds for his upcoming 12th and final season of his show Curb Your Enthusiasm. Watch the clip of his repsonse below.
