Everyone loves a good love story, especially during February. People want the kind of story that makes you smile and giggle while reading. We love reading the cutest and sweetest characters. Here are 14 books that will be perfect for you to read on February 14th:
- Funny You Should Ask By Elissa Sussman
“It’s almost like I’m coming home, Not to a place, necessarily, but to a feeling. To a possibility of more. And that completely and utterly terrifies me.”
Then: Chani Horowitz is used to writing simple stories, the ones no one else wants to write. However, she finds herself getting hired to write about Gabe Parker, the biggest movie star in Los Angeles. All Chani wants to do is write the perfect article. However, that one interview with Gabe turns into a weekend. Chani finds herself getting to know the real Gabe outside of the spotlight.
Now: 10 years later, Chani finds herself divorced and back in LA. She wants to start her successful writing career back up again. However, she can never get away from the questions about Gabe. So, when her boss asks her to do a second interview with Parker she is hesitant. She wants to keep those memories behind her. However, she also wants to know if that weekend meant as much to him as it did to her. After thinking about it, Chani finds herself sitting at the same booth she did ten years ago face to face with Gabe Parker.
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE books that go back and forth from past to present. I like reading characters meet and open up to each other. The reading sees them come back together after so many years picking up the broken pieces where they left off. This is exactly Chani and Gabe. The whole time you will be questioning what happened that weekend ten years ago. This isn’t your every day, kicking-your-feet, happy-all-the-time book. It has adult characters and talks about some adult topics. However, you will fall in love with these characters, chanting for them to find each other again. This story is so worth it!
- Listen to Your Heart By Kasie West
“Courage isn’t the absence of fear but the ability to move forward despite the fear.”
Kate Bailey isn’t a talker and prefers her small group of friends. She spends her Friday nights hanging with her cousins. Somehow though, her best friend convinces her to join the High School Podcast. She expects to get a behind-the-scenes job. She was wrong; she found herself sitting at the host table advising the student body. It feels good to help people with whatever they are having trouble with. One day, they get a call from an anonymous guy asking for advice about the girl he likes. Kate gets excited to hear updates from him and how they are getting to know each other by helping him get the girl of his dreams. Kate finds it easy to advise others. However, can she apply that wisdom to her own life?
I have been reading Kasie West’s books since middle school. I own, I think, almost all her books. The first book I read by her was what got me back into reading. It also helped me through the hardest time of my life. When you finish her books, you will feel like you found more of yourself. One of the biggest themes in her books is that it’s okay to be yourself and surround yourself with people who allow you to do that. I love seeing Kate break out of her shell and do something she truly wants to do. I am Kate; I sometimes hesitate to start and show who I truly am to people. However, I’m getting better at it. This would be a perfect book for V-day because their love story is amazing to read. However, you will also feel more love for yourself when you read Listen To Your Heart.
- The Do-Over By Lynn Painter
“This wasn’t about boys and girls and love and attraction, this was about a human soul needing to feel seen.”
Emilie is having the worst Valentine’s Day EVER! She just wants to go home to her bed, putting the day behind her. She wakes up the next morning, to it being Valentine’s Day again. Two days later? Another bad Valentine’s Day! She watches her boyfriend, Josh, cheat on her. Not only does she have to deal with her cheating boyfriend, but she also keeps running into Nick, sometimes literally. How many days can Emilie take this? Can she change the outcomes?
Emilie’s story reminds us that bad things can happen. However, something good can come out of the terrible. I love seeing Emilie focus on the good of her day, not just focus on the bad going on around her. This is probably the most Valentine’s theme on this list. The love story in this book will make you laugh and smile. It is one of those books that is just so happy. I think it would be a great choice to sit down and enjoy some quiet time. I bet you will enjoy it!
- The Bodyguard By Katherine Center
“And Loving other people really does turn out, in the end, to be a genuine way of loving yourself.”
Hannah Brooks is one of the best bodyguards in Texas. She is an Executive Protection Agent. People hire her from anywhere in the world if they need protection. Sometimes celebrities but also just everyday people. Jack Stapleton is a superstar actor. However, moved to Montana away from the spotlight after a tragic accident. Jack’s publicists hire Hannah to go with him to his family farm because his mother is sick, Jack doesn’t want his family to worry about his safety. He tells Hannah they can’t know she is a bodyguard, she needs to pretend to be his girlfriend. Hannah is dealing with troubles that are happening in her life right now and Jack is struggling with what happened in his past. Can they help protect each other?
I’m going to be 100% honest; this is my favorite romance novel I have ever read. It is everything I want in a book and more. I have read it probably about five times and it never gets old. You will fall in love with Hannah and Jack by the way Center writes them. I almost didn’t put it on the list because it does talk about some hard tragic times in the character’s life. However, I think it makes the book even better. This book holds a special place in my heart, and I hope others can find that, too. You might not love it as much as I did, but I know you will love Hannah and Jack’s story. I giggle every time I read this.
- Exes and O’s By Amy Lea
“My entire life, I thought I needed to hold on to love with an iron first. It was a feeling I needed to trap, to smother, so it wouldn’t slip through my fingers. Little did I know, when you’re with the right person, being in love never feels like the bottom is going to fall out. It’s solid, stable, and indestructible.”
Tara Chen is the romance book expert; she loves love. However, she has gotten her heart broken ten times, by ten different guys. However, Tara wants to find love like the kind she reads about. She makes a plan to find all of her exes for a chance at her favorite trope, second-chance romance. Trevor Metcalfe, Boston firefighter, loves to run into burning buildings helping people. However, wouldn’t be the first to jump into a relationship. His new roommate, Tara, brings him into this crazy plan of finding love again. Helping Trevor start a new chapter in his life, Trevor and Tara help each other find the kind of love they have always wanted.
If you love watching hours and hours of different YouTubers recommend book after book, you’re going to love Tara. She is the book influencer everyone loves. She is one of those characters you feel like you’re best friends with, like you’re living in the same world as her. Tara and Trevor are perfect for each other. This book has such a Valentine and love feeling to it; it’s perfect!
- The New York Minute By Kate Spencer
“And to the entire living, breathing, pulsating city of New York, I would be nothing without you. You are impossible to live in and impossible to live without. I will love you forever.”
Franny Dayle is having one of those days, where it seems like nothing will go right. She finds out that she is getting laid off from her dream job. To make everything worse, the subway rips her perfect silk dress, but a nice stranger offers her his jacket to cover up the rip. However, he gets off before Franny can thank him. To make things worse, she goes online to see someone posted a video of her ripping her dress. The video is blowing up all around Manhattan. People are loving Franny and whoever this stranger was. Franny finds out who that stranger is, Hayes Montgomery III, one of the richest families in New York City. Franny and Hayes can’t be any different. She is talkative and creative. He’s shy and cares too much about work. Good thing there are thousands of people in New York, and they are never going to see each other again, right?
Every time I read the summary for this book it makes me want to stay up all night and read it again. Franny and Hayes on paper seem like they would never work out. However, they fit together so well! You will fall in love with Franny’s humor and Hayes’s personality. Sometimes romance books seem like they have the same plot just with different characters. However, I think this book is totally on its own. I think the author did a lovely job creating a new story. If you want a fun and creative story, I would pick this one!
- The Love Hypothesis By Ali Hazelwood
“Olive had felt that he was on her side. Over and over, and in ways that could never have anticipated, he had made her feel unjudged. Less alone.”
Olive Smith, a third-year PH.D., doesn’t believe in romantic relationships. However, her best friend is worried about her and won’t date to protect her. However, Olive can’t let that happen when she knows this guy is perfect for her best friend. So, she picks the very first guy she sees to be her pretend boyfriend. However, she regrets that when she sees it’s Adam Carlsen, the moody hotshot professor. Olive is ready to start her career and present the research she has been studying for years. To her surprise, Adam is helping and supporting her through all of it. Olive gets scared when this relationship feels more real than fake.
If you love science, this is all of that. However, I didn’t know that much and still loved it. I like both Olive and Adam. However, the way Adam cares and will do anything for Olive makes my heart melt. The emotions and settings of this book are so well written. It will be one of those books you sit and think about everything you just read when you finish. It will bring you up and down and back up again. It is more of a mature story, but still very enjoyable. If you like that, I would recommend this read.
- The Match By Sarah Adams
“You can’t control other people, but you can control who you surround yourself with.”
Evie works for Southern Service Paws, connecting people with the perfect service dog. Jacob Broaden has been a mess since his daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy. He is hesitant to get a dog but he wants his daughter safe wherever she is. Evie agrees to work with Jacob and his daughter to find the perfect dog for them. Spending time with them makes Evie find what it feels like to have a family, something she didn’t have growing up.
This is probably the happiest story I have ever read. I think I was smiling the whole time. There is some conflict in the book, but somehow Adams’ writing still makes it seem good. This book is not too long and should be able to finish in a day. If you’re looking for a sunshine book for your day, I would pick this one.
- The Love Wager By Lynn Painter
“I want to spend forever with my favorite human. The person who cracks me up and gets me and likes the way I think. Romance is nice, but I want to be with one person where if something happens to me-funny, awful, wonderful-I’m dying to tell them.”
Hallie Piper is ready to get her life together. It’s been a year since her high school sweetheart broke up with her because “He just liked the idea of her.” She gets a new apartment with no roommates, a new haircut, and a new wardrobe. She logs on to her dating app ready to find love. However, sees no other than Jack Marshall, the best man she met at a wedding last weekend. After agreeing they don’t have any interest in each other, they decide to help each other find that special someone. Going on dates at the same restaurant, and escaping to the taco hut down the street when they don’t go as planned. Being the competitive people they are, they come up with a wager, Who will be the first to find real love? Hallie or Jack?
This is a little different writing by Lynn Painter, but still a good story. You will love to read about the friendship Hailie and Jack form. There are some very sweet moments throughout their story. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a short, sweet, and enjoyable read.
- The Spanish Love Deception By Elena Armas
“You feel complete in my arms. You feel like my home.”
Catalina Martine just needs a date for her sister’s wedding. A little white lie to her family gives them the idea she has an American boyfriend. Now she has four weeks to find someone before her flight to Spain. Surprisingly, her colleague, Aaron Blackford, offers to step in and be her date at the wedding. Cataline wants to say no, she has never met someone who is that arrogant. However, Aaron is all she has in this short amount of time. So, she and Aaron board a flight to Spain. What could go wrong?
If you want a sunshine and summer kind of book, I would pick this one. Lina and Aaron’s characters are similar to The Love Hypothesis. However, their story is different in a good way. This story is very funny with Lina’s family involved. You will laugh at the cousins’ characters. Again, this is more of a mature story if you like that.
- P.S. I Like You By Kasie West
“Words brought us together though they almost kept us apart. You trusted me with your secrets and then you stole my heart.”
Lily scribbles the lyrics to her favorite song on her desk trying to stay away during chemistry. The next day she finds the rest of the song written out. Soon Lily and this secret pen-pal start to connect with music, lyrics, and everyday life. Lily wants to meet this mystery pen pal but there are hundreds of kids at her school. How will she find them? Does she know them already?
Kasie West books are perfect young-adult, short, and sweet books. From the start of this book you know who the secret pen-pal is. However, it’s fun to read Lily trying to figure out who it is. Also fun to see how they act in real life and the letters. If you have a love for music, I think you will relate to Lily. There are many things mentioned about relatable high school experiences, too. You can probably finish this one in a day, too!
- Last Chance Books By Kelsey Rodkey
“Like getting a paper cut followed by a million paper cuts, just when the first one had stopped hurting. And yet, she keeps picking up the paper.”
Madeline Moore’s favorite place to be in her home town is Brooks and Moore. The bookstore that has been in her family for generations. All her life she has dreamed of someday running it just like her aunt. That is the plan too, until a chain bookstore, Prologue, moves in across the street. Madeline’s only goal now is to keep the bookstore open and destroy the enemy bookstore. Jasper, a worker at the store, seems to care only about ruining her life. He is taking away all her customers. Maddy’s dreams of keeping the bookstore open are fading away.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves to go to cozy bookstores. You will appreciate how much Madeline cares for her family’s bookstore. The fighting and cute scenes are equal in this book. Sometimes the fighting gets annoying if there is too much but there is a good amount in this book. Last Chance Books is perfect for a cozy bed, rainy all-day kind of book.
- Practice Makes Perfect By Sarah Adams
“Please. Just let me be here. I don’t know why, but I can’t be anywhere else. I tried but my feet keep bringing me back here to your door.”
Annie Walker is on a journey to find her perfect match. However, she lives in Rome, Kentucky, where everyone knows everyone. So she stays to her quiet life, running her flower shop. That is until Will Griffin, the newcomer to her small little town arrives. However, Will’s main goal is to stay away from Annie and get out of this town as fast as he can. Annie asks him to help her find her perfect match, but he knows no guy in this town will make her happy. However, he doesn’t have the heart to tell her no. Will finds himself spending every day with Annie and settling into this old town, the two things he didn’t want to do.
I am also very much an Annie. Annie loves her quiet world but also questions what it would be like to adventure out a little bit. I think many can relate to her while reading. A lot of people that I know who read Adams say this is their favorite book by her. This would be a very sweet book for Valentine’s Day!
- Better Than The Movies By Lynn Painter
“I fell in love with teasing you in the second grade, when I first discovered that I could turn your cheek pink with one word. Then I was in love with you.”
Liz Buxbaum and Wes have gotten under each other’s skin since they were little. You would think that they would be best friends, being neighbors all their life. But, Wes was the one who put a frog in Liz’s Barbie dreamhouse (Liz will never move on from that). Now it’s their senior year, and Liz needs Wes’s help, their childhood best friend just moved back to town, the boy Liz had been in love with since kindergarten. She asks Wes to help her get to know Michael again. As Wes and Liz work together to make the magical prom night happen, Liz finds Wes isn’t as much trouble as she thought all her life.
Better Than The Movies was my favorite book so far from Lynn Painter. One of my favorite details is all of the romantic movies mentioned throughout the book. Liz and her mom used to watch the movies together because they both loved seeing people fall in love. My grandma and I do the same thing. All of Painter’s books also have a playlist of songs that go with the book. They are usually listed in the back of the book, but if not, they are all on her website. I like it because it creates a cozy mood around you while reading. When you read the book, you can just see how much they liked each other; they just needed to find it. This is probably in my top three to recommend to people for Valentine’s Day or any day!
Different authors choose to put different things into their books. If you want a more young adult or sweet, cute book, I would pick Listen to Your Heart, The Do-Over, The New York Minute, Better Than The Movies, P.S. I Like You, Last Chance Books, Practice Makes Perfect, The Love Wager, and The Match. However, if you want more adult characters and more emotion, then I would pick Funny You Should Ask, The Bodyguard, Exes and O’s, The Love Hypothesis, and The Spanish Love Deception.
Whatever you are comfortable with, these are all good choices to pick.
I hope as you read the quotes, summaries, and my personal opinions of each book, that you find at least one that will be perfect for you on Valentine’s Day. You don’t always have to have someone special on V-day because there will always be a book waiting for you! I hope you fall in love with it!
