After her highly inappropriate video was posted, Indiana State University had to possibly expel Asa Blanton from its nursing program. Asa Blanton, a college freshman in nursing at Indiana State University, filmed a video about Beyoncé’s newest album ActII:Cowboy Carter. In the video, she ranted racist rhetoric toward black people for, “Not being country.”  Asa then made statements saying that if blacks had lived in the country or their grandparents had, “They were picking[cotton] not planting. They weren’t being paid, They were being paid for.” Asa continued talking about how she found it disrespectful when black people wore overalls at many frat parties she had attended. It is not known how the video was released, but the fact is that it’s out and being reposted all over the internet.

After the video went viral on TikTok, Indiana State gained backlash for having a student like this, and many decided to sign a petition on Change.org to have Asa removed from the university and nursing programs entirely. ISU decided to make a statement on the situation saying, “We want to provide further emphasis on the commitment of Indiana State University to promote a supportive environment for all our students.” They go on to say that when they found out about a racist video from one of their students, they immediately worked with the Vice President of Student Affairs to find out who the student was and let them go from the program.  ISU said, “This video impacts the entire campus community, but it deeply affects students from marginalized groups. Make no mistake-We hear you. We see you. We support you. We have been and will continue to work for you.”

Since the statement, Asa Banton has been supposedly expelled from ISU and its nursing program and possibly all nursing programs nationwide, a tip from an anonymous source who were a previous coworker and a family friend had shared to The Owl. Many see this as a lesson on how fast one’s life can be flipped upside down or ruined by any poor choice shared online. Since the incident, Asa has not made a statement of her own and her parents have taken down all social media.
