The hockey awards will take place on Monday, June 26th, and with the regular season being over, it’s time for me to give my predictions on who will win each award.
Hart Memorial Trophy
Hot take, but I have Nikita Kucherov winning the Hart this season. Kucherov ended up with 144 points this season the most out of any player. Kucherov also achieved 100 assists being one out of 5 players to ever do it, and even though he was assisting most of the time he still ended 10th in goals. To put that into perspective Connor McDavid who also got 100 assists this year ended up 35th in goals. Kucherov has been such a dominant player this year and although he was only able to get his team a Wild Card spot, he still should win the Hart Trophy this year.
Calder Memorial Trophy
Connor Bedard vs Brock Fabers is the debate for the Calder that has been going on since the beginning of the season, but who do I have winning? I say Connor Bedard will win, and I’ll give a short explanation, but if you want to know all the reasons I have Bedard winning check out my article: Bedard vs Faber race for the Calder. Bedard leads all rookies in points with 61, and Bedard also leads all rookies in goals with 22. Bedard has just been the best rookie so that’s why I have him winning the Calder.
Vezina Trophy
Connor Hellebuyck is the front runner for the Vezina trophy, and will most likely take it home this year. Hellebuyck had a total of 1798 goals against and only averaged 2.63 goals allowed, which is 4th in the league. Hellebuyck has a save percentage of .921%, which puts him in 2nd of all goalies this year. Hellebuyck also came in second for most wins this season with 37. HelleBuyck has been the best goalie this year, and will surely take home the Vezina.
James Norris Memorial Trophy
Quinn Hughes is my Norris Trophy winner this year, and in my opinion, it’s not even a close race he’s been far better than Cale Makar this year. Hughes leads all the goalies in points this season with 9 and also leads all defenders in assists with 75. Hughes is also 4th in +/- rating with a +38, which is way better than Cale Makar’s +15. Quinn Hughes also played a big role in helping the Canucks win the Pacific division this year. No disrespect to Cale Makar, but Quinn Hughes will easily win the Norris Trophy this year.
