On August 31st, from 5 pm to 8 pm, there will be an event held in honor of those whose lives have been taken by addiction. The event is being run by multiple groups who are 180 RCO, Centerstone, and the Drug-Free Council who all help addicts in recovery and learn to live sober. One of the spokespersons is Ben Beatty, a former recovering addict wanting to help others get through what he did. Ben has been vocal about his story of struggling with addiction and what he has been through in his journey to become sober. His goal is to make recovery from any addiction normal.
This event is being held to showcase one of the “Deaths of Despair” when someone’s cause of death is before their time. Ben is very open with his story and how he wants to help addicts live a life of sobriety so they do not succumb to it. Ben helps run Centerstone an addict recovery business with group and singular meetings. He is also one of the main spokespeople and leaders behind 180 RCO which is a 12-step program planning to add recovery housing for many who can’t find a place to stay sober and start a life of health.
The event being organized these groups will have former and recovering addicts telling their stories of recovery and sobriety, a memorial walk, and a butterfly release for those who have passed and honor them in death.
The event will also showcase live graffiti art by Kyle McIntosh throughout the event and will end along with it. There will also be live music from local musicians playing throughout the event well as local food trucks for all guests to eat while enjoying their time. The event will have spokespeople from all groups running it and even City Representatives supporting it.
