Graduating Early

Cheyenne Douglass, Staff Writer

There are several students at Seymour High School who are graduating early in the 2017-2018 school year. Some of these students will be graduating mid-term while others will actually be graduating a whole year early. There are a couple different options for being on the road to early graduation. One of these options include Gradpoint. Gradpoint is a process where students can take your class online, as long as the student completes the class with a passing score the student will earn the credits. On Gradpoint, a person has a set date of when their lessons are due.  A person must get an 80% or higher to pass each lesson. Once they have finished that lesson they move onto the next lesson. Depending on the Gradpoint a person can have 8-10 lessons per class.

Another option would be if the student would choose to play a sport during high school. Seymour High School recognizes two semesters of any sport as the credit for gym for that year. This is a great option for getting ahead because sports are played after school so that creates room to take another class instead of taking gym.

One of several Senior students at Seymour High School, Ryan Hanson is graduating mid-term. Ryan Hanson says “It’s not that hard to graduate mid-term. It’s nice to graduate and feel accomplished of what you can do. Every one can graduate mid-term if they put their mind to it.” But there are also several Junior students that are graduating a whole year early like Jasmine Banks.

If a person doesn’t want to take Gradpoint they would have to have 40 credits to have a Core 40. In the student handbook on page 17 one can see all the qualifications to graduate. If a student is considering graduating early, just go to counselor and he/she can point student in the right direction.
