History was made on Saturday. The Seymour Owls have won the Sectional Championship for the first time since 2009. The Owls defeated the Jeffersonville Red Devils by a score of 3-0 to advance to 13-5 on the season and earned themselves a trip to the regionals.
Seymour hasn’t won the sectionals since 2009, and after many years of hard work and frustration, the Owls finally got the job done. The Owls were 4-2 in conference play this year, only losing to the top two teams in the conference. The Owls are a very gritty team and will try to make every game close. They have only given up 20 goals all year, the least in the HHC Conference. Let’s look at the actual game now.
The Owls dominated Jeffersonville the entire game, proving that defense wins championships. Seymour’s defense was solid, but their offense might have been better. Seniors Juan Fernandez and Jacob Loebker both scored goals, and alongside them was junior Markenson Paul who scored his 14th goal of the year.
After an intense first half, the score was 0-0 going into halftime. Coach Dennis must’ve said something very inspirational because the Owls came out of the half firing. Three 2nd half goals won the game for the Owls.
This was one of the biggest wins in Seymour Soccer history and will be in the history books forever.
I knew this win was huge for Seymour, but I wanted to see how much it meant to the players. I asked junior Naythan Hernandez what the win meant to him, and he said ” It was the best moment of my career.” “Lifting that trophy was the best feeling someone could have.”
This was one of the best teams Seymour has ever had, and it was all brought together by Coach Dennis. The HHC Coach of The Year should already be decided, and it should be Coach Dennis. This was a really fun team to watch and will go down in history forever.
