The Seymour Owls face off against the Brownstown Braves on Friday, December 6th at Brownstown High School. The Owls have beaten Corydon Central and have lost to Columbus North, while the Braves have beaten the Salem Lions. Seymour defeated Corydon Central (1-1) by a score of 42-33 and lost to Columbus North (2-0) by a score of 46-41. Brownstown defeated Salem (0-2) by a score of 80-35.
The Owls will be looking to take down the reigning 2A State Champions on the road. The Owls haven’t defeated their crosstown rival in 17 years. That is not a joke. We call it a rivalry, yet it’s one of the most one-sided matchups in the state. It’s not that Seymour has been bad, it’s that Brownstown has been elite. Most of the students at Seymour High School weren’t alive the last time the Owls defeated the Braves in basketball. But there are some positives, the Owls defeated the Braves 7 times from 2000-2007. So the total record against Brownstown in this century is 7-17. Let’s move on to the game now.
The Seymour Owls are led by seniors Jaylan Johnson, Brady Harpe, Parker Thompson, and Michael Brooks. They also have solid juniors, including Evan Unterseher, Nate Fritsch, Traysean Hawkins, and Nolan Bartels.
The Braves have some solid players who were vital to the state championship title last year, including senior Chace Coomer who has multiple D3 offers, senior Colby Hall who has multiple NAIA offers, and junior Micah Sheffer who is currently committed to Purdue University for Golf.
Here are my predictions. I will be honest.
Score: 54-38- Brownstown wins
I think Coach Mans could coach a masterclass and find a way to win, but all the odds are against the Owls. This will be a very slow game, if you like offense I would not go to this game. I hate to pick against Seymour but sometimes you have to. Let’s show up to the game on Friday and will our Owls to an upset win over the Braves.
