Quantitative Reasoning is a new class offered at SHS. In this class, students learn to think critically and apply basic math to interpret data, label graphs, and solve problems within a context. Students achieve this by completing packets and tests every week. However, in the last two weeks of the nine-week period, students are assigned a final project. Last quarter, students had to plan and budget their future lifestyle. This allowed them to understand how to plan money expenses and save.
For the last nine weeks, students worked on problems involving probability. What do you think of when you hear about probability? Topics related to casino games. That’s exactly what students had to accomplish for this project.
In groups of three, they worked together to create a game and calculate the probability of winning. Students created games with cards and dice, and some even created their own materials. The goal of each game is to allow this house to win almost every time. While working on the projects, students learned that casino games are unreasonable to customers.
Quantitative Reasoning students get the chance to display their games this Friday, December 20th! Students, teachers, and admin will come to Mrs. Ewbank’s classroom to play the games.
Every group did a wonderful job designing unique games, excellent job! Thank you, Mrs. Ewbank, for creating and helping QR students with their projects!
