On February 1st the whole nation was shocked as the Dallas star Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in a 3 way trade.

Dallas fans are devastated and upset. They have a right to be angry because he was the franchise ever since they drafted him in 2018. Dirk Nowitzki who lead the Dallas Mavericks to win a NBA title in 2011 had a statue next to the American airlines stadium. Fans were emphasizing that Luka deserved a statue right next to the legend who led them to win a NBA championship.

Part owner Mark Cuban who sold his share was even astonished about the trade stating “I didn’t know”. Even Luka the player that was being traded and the franchise star didn’t know. Nico Harrison who was the GM who was responsible for the trade was stating “we will see if I’m right”.

This brings up a serious topic that has been swirling around sports media about how anyone can be traded. Anthony Edwards the star of the Minnesota Timber-wolves said, “If Luka was traded anyone can be traded.” People are more concerned about the fact that Luka didn’t have any acknowledgement of the situation until it was too late sending out a letter to the Mavs fans saying “I thought I would bring you guys a championship”.

Fans believed Luka was traded due to a low work ethic and the rumor of  a super-max extension contract. It was rumored by Patrick Dumont the Mavs owner that Luka had zero work ethic and was lazy. This sparked concerns about his weight increasing and further health concerns about not being able to sustain proper recovery.

Mavs fans have a right to grieve the loss of their franchise player and beloved role model for many and it seems like a new rebuilding time for Dallas.
