British writer Geoffrey Chaucer once said, “All good things must come to an end.” However, some things end better than others. While the Lady Owls’ Swimming and Diving won the Floyd Central Sectional, and freshman wrestler Chase Koznarsky advanced to IHSAA Semi-State, the Lady Owls’ basketball team ended their season with a lopsided loss to FC.
Lady Owls’ Swimming and Diving ended a historic perfect season: undefeated, HHC Conference Champion, and Sectional Champion. 2011 was the last time the Lady Owls even sniffed a Sectional victory when they ended in a 3-way tie, and 1995 was the only other undefeated season in school history. As 2025 Sectional Champions, the Owls’ depth in all races and diving helped them secure the win as no swimmer finished in first place to advance to state. Addy Castetter narrowly missed moving on to the state meet in the 100 fly, being outtouched at the finish. However, diver Maggie Calhoun finished fourth to compete in the Jasper Regional on February 11.
The Lady Owls set a record for most wins in a season (18); in 2024 they had 14. At the HHC Conference meet, even though Seymour had no individual first-placed champions, they scored three places in seven individual events and amassed 302 points to win their first title since 2003. Seymour also won the HHC in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and 1997. Sectionals’ Top 8 finishers were Addy Castetter 2nd 100 Fly & 200 IM/ Amber Ault 3rd 500 Free & 6th 200 Free/ Sallie Nicholson 3rd 200 Free & 5th 100 Free/ Kylie Grove 5th 200 Free & 7th 100 Fly/ Katelynn Woods 4th 100 Free & 7th 200 Free/ Lilly Simons 4th 50 Free & 6th 100 Free/ Lauren Bode 4th 100 Back & 6th 200 IM/ Sydney Bush 4th 100 Breast & 8th 200 IM/ Laney Reinhart 5th 500 Free & 8th 50 Free/ Emma Dippold 5th 100 Back & 6th 100 Fly.
Coach Dave Boggs has coached IHSAA state swimmers and Olympic athletes, but he is most proud of the “total team effort and outstanding team depth” this season. His enthusiasm was evident when he shared, “THIS WAS A TOTAL TEAM VICTORY!”
The SPD Police escorted the Lady Owls to the high school where a throng of family and friends awaited them. It was another special day to be an Owl.
Seniors Kylie Grove, Emily Windley, and Gracie Adams led the team well all season. Congratulations, Lady Owls’ Swimming and Diving.
Freshman Chase Koznarsky left the Jeffersonville Regional as the runner-up in the 106 weight class on February 8. Koznarsky punched his ticket to the Evansville Semi-state this upcoming Saturday at the Ford Center. The meet will start at 9 a.m. Central Standard Time. Congratulations, Chase. Owls Will!
Floyd Central’s Lady Highlanders (22-4) eliminated Lady Owls’ Basketball (10-13) at Friday’s Class 4A Seymour Sectional semifinal. Their lopsided 63-21 was a tough end for seniors Greer Henry, Kenzi Gagner, and Rochiely Zarate-Gibson; however, the Lady Owls showed grit the entire season. When they were 2-11 early in the season, they dug in, worked harder to improve, and finished the stretch 8-1. Overall, Coach Longmeier enjoyed coaching this group of young women and was impressed by their resiliency. Thank you, Greer, Kenzi, and Rochiely, for your dedication to Lady Owls’ Basketball.
