The high school basketball season is almost over, and there is only one more game remaining in the regular season for the Owls. The Owls play the Silver Creek Dragons (20-3) on Friday, Feb 28th at Seymour. The Dragons will be a great test for the Owls to end the season. The Owls have a 15-6 record on the season and a 3-3 conference record. A win on Friday would extend the Owls winning streak to four games, and have them well-prepared for sectionals. Here’s a look at Seymour’s sectional draw.
Unlike last year, the Owls finally got a lucky sectional draw. They will face off against the Floyd Central Highlanders who have a 4-17 record and a 1-5 conference record. These two teams have already faced off this year, with the Owls coming out on top by a final score of 44-28.
Sectional time is always great because the Owls get to play at home in front of their fans. It might seem unfair, but Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium is the second-largest high school basketball arena in the country, which allows many opposing fans to fill the arena.
The Owls are led by seniors Brady Harpe, Jaylan Johnson, Michael Brooks, and Parker Thompson. Juniors Nate Fritsch, Traysean Hawkins, Evan Unterseher, Mack Longmeier, and Nolan Bartels are alongside them.
Floyd Central is led by a 6’3 sophomore Landon Reed (16.6 PPG), alongside him is senior Isaac Kaiser (11.3 PPG), senior Sam Higgins (8.7 PPG), sophomore Jaxon Stone (5.2 PPG), junior Carter Mcquigg (5.0 PPG), junior Logan Young (5.0 PPG), senior Camden Harritt (3.5 PPG), and sophomore Parker Kays (1.3 PPG).
Recent Stats: Seymour is 9-1 in their last 10 games, while Floyd Central is 2-8. Seymour is averaging 50.2 PPG in their previous 10 games, while Floyd Central is averaging 51.9 PPG. Seymour is giving up 39.1 PPG in their last 10 games, while Floyd Central is giving up 58.7 PPG.
If Seymour defeats Floyd Central they will play the New Albany Bulldogs in the 2nd round of the sectionals.
The sectionals tip off on March 4th at 6 PM when the Jeffersonville Red Devils face off against the Scottsburg Warriors.
Let’s be ready to cheer on our Owls.
Owls Will.
