The Indiana Department of Health confirmed five new cases of measles in Indiana, three minors and two adults in Allen County. That is a total of six confirmed cases in Indiana this year.
The officials of the report confirmed all six infected are connected. All four minors that tested positive were unvaccinated, according to the Health Department. It is still unknown if the adults have been vaccinated.
Local and state health officials are investigating the possibly exposed and to prevent further exposure. The measles infection is spread through air exposure. The virus can stay alive on a surface for a full two hours. The Indiana Department of Health considered the six confirmed cases to be considered an outbreak because of how highly contagious the virus can spread. However, the chance of catching the virus is very low.
