Angie Lucas, the Seymour Owls’ volleyball head coach and former math teacher, has been fighting a devastating battle.

On May 16th, 2025, Coach Lucas found out she had cancer. Lucas said she will never forget that day.

The question everyone’s asking is will she retire from coaching?

When Coach Lucas first found out about her diagnosis she was in shock. Everyone was because she means a lot to many people. Lucas felt several emotions and turned to her faith and support from her family and friends to get her through.

She told the girls that the gym is the one place where everything seemed normal to her. Outside of the gym, nothing was normal for her.

Lucas said, “I know that they are my army fighting this battle with me.”

Freshman Emerson McDonald shared, “The team and I thank her for coming into practice everyday even with everything going on.”

Coach Angie thought about retiring, but her doctors said that she needed to live life as normally as she could.

Winning is the coach’s only option. Keep fighting, Coach Lucas.
