A year ago, on August 23, Sabrina Carpenter released her sophomore album on Island Records; Short and Sweet. But now, after such a short time, she has already released a new album titled Man’s Best Friend. This section of her musical career really lived up to its name. Now that is over although, we can finally fully acknowledge all that entails to the “Short N Sweet” album campaign.
Fundamentally, the album is what makes the era but what is arguably more important are the singles. Sabrina Carpenter released five singles from April to December 2024; “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” “Bed Chem,” and “Juno.” Those five singles took over all of radio play and dominated the charts for their lifespan, making Sabrina Carpenter the first artist since The Beatles to chart her first three top 5 hits all at once during the same week.
Additionally, the aesthetics of Sabrina that were put on during this era were almost iconic as the breakthrough album. Her “Short N Sweet” tour was defined by very loud sexual pride, with many promiscuous dances going on as she performed. Her outfits seemed to match that same energy, with short dresses and tall heels, she showed she was not afraid to be so forward in her appearance. Most of the set designs going with this tour seemed to follow a similar feminine trend, with most sets being built like a Barbie dream-house.
Now that the “Short N Sweet” campaign is over, Sabrina has shown to be in control of the media, not letting anybody misunderstand the message she wants to send. Some media outlets have said that a lot of her songs and messages are “regressive” and “anti-feminist” but this is not true, in fact, it’s quite the contrary. By showing young women they can be in control of their sexuality, Sabrina sets a great example for her younger, more impressionable audience.
After “Man’s Best Friend’ released, speculations began about what direction Sabrina will take in her next tour. Many expect a similarly confident Sabrina to take the stage but in a more classy, mature way that shows how she has grown up.
