This fall, Seymour High School welcomed a new addition to the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Department, Mrs. Shoemaker. She joined the SHS family in late September, stepping into her new role with enthusiasm and warmth for her new students.
Mrs. Shoemaker knew from an early age that she wanted to become a teacher. “I love being able to help students learn new things and grow as people,” she shared. Her passion for hands-on learning and real-world education made FACS the perfect fit. “My favorite part of the day is when I get to make learning fun for my students,” she noted. “I’m so excited to teach content that directly relates to the real world.”
A proud Purdue University graduate, Mrs. Shoemaker brings a wealth of experience to SHS. She has previously taught agriculture and JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates), and she’s excited to explore new territory in early childhood education and nutrition this year.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. Shoemaker enjoys spending time with her husband and kids on their family farm. “When I’m not at school, I love spending time with my family. You can catch us enjoying evening rides in the buddy seat,” she expressed.
Her transition to SHS has been made easier by the strong support of her colleagues. “The FACS Department is the best! They have welcomed me into their family here at SHS and it has made the transition so much easier,” she reflected.
Mrs. Shoemaker has already made a positive impact on her students. Her passion for teaching and dedication to her students shines through everything she does. SHS is grateful for have her as a part of the Owl family, and we can’t wait to see all the great things she will accomplish this year. Welcome to Seymour High School, Mrs. Shoemaker!
