Academy Students Serve Coffee

The Special Education department has been treating teachers and students with a concessions service called the Coffee Cart, and people are loving it!

The coffee cart crew goes around the school campus giving out free morning beverages such as coffee and hot chocolate to any student or faculty member that asks for it. The supervising teacher, Mrs. Meeks, started the program earlier this school year to give the Academy students more exposure to their other classmates as well as teaching them useful life skills such as cashiering and customer service.

“It started as a way to help these kids reach out and be productive, but it’s also so that they can get some experience early for when they’re out there in the real world,” Mrs. Meeks said. “And the kids and teachers seem to love it too!”

That statement seems to be true, as several teachers and students have made evident in interviews. Mrs. Fischer of the English department says, “I like the coffee cart service. Teachers get a “lift” and the Academy Students get an opportunity to positively contribute to the school and interact with faculty.”
