Football Team Improves to 2-0 After Big Win at Jeffersonville
September 3, 2019
The Owls traveled to Jeffersonville Friday night to take on the Red Devils. It was a slow start for both teams, going without a score until the start of the second quarter, where the Red Devils struck first with a 74-yard pass touchdown. After getting the ball back on the kickoff, Seymour couldn’t put anything together and had to punt the ball and pinned Jeffersonville on their own 6-yard line. The very next play resulted in a fumble recovery that set the Owls up in on Jeff’s 6-yard line and would soon score from a 3-yard run by Chandler Drummond. Seymour would go on to miss the PAT. Jeff’s drive after receiving the kickoff was unsuccessful and would have to punt. The Owls capitalized upon getting the ball back, stringing together a slew of plays that resulted in a touchdown and converted 2-point conversion to make the score 14-7, Seymour’s lead. Jeff couldn’t put anything together and the game entered halftime.
Seymour received the ball to start the third quarter but soon found themselves punting the ball right back to Jeff, who got the ball on their own 6-yard line again. This time, the Red Devils broke a big run and scored a 94-yard touchdown. They made their PAT and the score was now tied at 14-a piece. Seymour Quarterback would find receiver Ely Henderson for a big gain that put the Owl’s on Jeff’s 2-yard line. Smith would run it in himself shortly after, making it 21-14. The Owls forced Jeff to punt yet again after a sack from Josh Pennington, who also returned the punt all the way to Jeff’s 11-yard line. They would eventually force the ball to Jeff’s goal line which resulted in another Smith rushing touchdown.
Once the game entered the fourth quarter, both teams didn’t have much going for the whole quarter. The game became dormant until towards the end of the quarter, when the Red Devils scored to make it just a one possession game. Seymour recovered an onside kick from Jeff and would go on to run the clock out and improve their record to 2-0.
