Mrs. Doubtfire Coming To Broadway
December 10, 2019
New York City’s beloved Broadway has taken a hard fall after losing several iconic shows over the past couple of years (Be More Chill, Kinky Boots, School of Rock, Cats, and Les Miserables). A new show is planned to leap onto the stage this spring: Mrs. Doubtfire! The show has a complete cast, and opens April 5th, 2020.
Though the musical has potential, fans have some concerns. Will the Broadway adaptation keep the same energy the movie provided? Will it be as funny? How will some iconic scenes be recreated on stage?
And the most important question: Will Robin William’s character be accurately represented and recreated?
Earlier this year, one of Robin’s most iconic roles in Disney’s Aladdin was bestowed upon Will Smith. Though there was controversy on the quality of the movie in general, Will had a huge role, and an even bigger legacy to live up to.
Will did an amazing job bringing the character to life in his own way. Though his singing, acting, and overall character portrayal wasn’t an exact duplication of Robin William’s, that is what fans enjoyed about the movie. He put his own twist on the character, which gave a new, fun, and fresh feeling to the movie.
There is a lot of potential for the musical, in my opinion. Of course, no one can recreate Robin William’s character and spirit in the same fashion as him, but there’s potential for a new and equally entertaining version of Mrs. Doubtfire.
