Boys outswam the crowd

It was a tale of greatness for these undefeated swimmers. Paul Montgomery, Will Cottrill, Clay Greenawalt, and Pedro Cerino-Rico can add HHC Conference Champ, Sectional Champ, school record-holder, and IHSAA State Qualifier to their resumes. The boys were undefeated in the 200 freestyle relay all season. During late January they visited East High School for the HHC conference meet. They blew the competition out of the water by easily winning the 200 freestyle relay. Then, mid February they made their way to Floyd Central Middle School for sectionals. They were set up for greatness during prelims by Grant Smith, Larry Simons, Caden Harris, and Jadrix Zumhingst and went out and soundly defeated the competition in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Not only did they advance in those two races but Paul Montgomery also won every event he swam during the finals. He crushed the competition in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Coach Boggs knew this relay would make it far when they beat Floyd Central at the end of winter break.

Will Cottrill said,”I never expected to go to state but it was for sure one of the best experiences.” He also said,” Who would’ve thought I could have made it with only one year of swimming.”
