Most of my life I’ve been noticing a few strange things around my house that have made me wonder: Could my house be haunted? While one could claim there are plausible explanations for some of these events, they still leave me with plenty of questions. I’ve gathered a collection of some of the odd things that have happened here.
One of the more notable events that happened in the beginning was when I was around 10 years old. I was several feet away from a chair in my room when a clothes hanger suddenly flipped off of the seat and landed on the floor. There was no reason for it, no movement from me or anyone else for that matter. And considering I was around 10 years old that freaked me out enough to cause me to bolt down the stairs and not return to my room for the rest of the day.
Additionally, there was the time when a plushy randomly hit mez when my back was turned while sitting on my bed. I could’ve sworn that it was on my desk (which is on the wall across from my bed). My door was closed and I was the only one in my room. It was the only thing that moved and I have no logical explanation for how it hit me.
An ever recurring event that I have experienced and which may be considered the most common among ghost stories involves my dogs barking at what appears to be absolutely nothing. An instance of this occurring that I have not forgotten is when my dog awoke from her sleep only to go fully alert with her ears perked up. She then continued to turn towards the empty and stationary rocking chair and started barking. She refused to stop until I comforted her by holding and petting her. This could be brushed off as a dog’s crazy antics but it really feels like more.
The final situation I’m mentioning and perhaps the strangest thing that has ever happened to me leaves me baffled. One day, my closet door opened on its own. It’s secured with a latch, which in the past was installed to keep younger cousins from rummaging through my things, and I even have a chair positioned in front of it. On top of that, my floor is carpeted which already makes the door difficult to open. What happened was one night as I was sitting on my bed I heard a creaking noise. To my surprise, when I looked over I saw the door begin to open. I have no logical explanation for why this happened.
I don’t know for sure what I believe. My normal stance is that it is haunted but one could argue there are completely plausible explanations. Nonetheless, it’s up for interpretation and you can decide for yourself. But maybe reflect on those weird “unexplainable” instances and you may discover you have a few ghost stories yourself.
