All State Band

All+State+Band

The 2023 Indiana Bandmasters Association All-State Band Festival was held March 10 – 12 at Purdue University in West Lafayette. The finale concert at the Elliott Hall of Music on Sunday, March 12 at 2:30 PM. Lucas Jablonski, a French Horn player, had the honor of being the only student from SHS to experience playing with top tier musicians. Through hard work, dedication, and meeting all requirements, he was chosen. Outstanding musicians, who are students of IBA members, in grades 9 -12 are eligible for All-State Band. The student must be a member in good standing of his/her school’s band program throughout the school year. All participants are required to attend all rehearsals and the performance for the All-State Festival weekend (March 10, 11 and 12, 2022).

Before the weekend of March 12, Lucas Jablonski was asked, “Has it taken a lot of time and dedication to make it into All State Band?” he replied, “Yes, it has. I’ve spent a lot of time practicing the music with a private teacher and on my own.”

Next asked, “Are you looking forward to the performance?” he replied, “I am looking forward to the time I will spend with elite musicians. It will be interesting to see how everyone uses their talent to make the band sound great.”

“What are some of the names of the pieces? Is there a specific genre?” He said, “There is not a certain genre. Some of the song names are Urban light and Sleep.”

The final question, “How was your experience this past weekend at All State Band?” He said, “My experience was good. I was very tired and exhausted, but I think it prepared me well for next year and the progression of my musical abilities. It was a good experience being around advanced French Horn players.”

We are all very proud of Lucas Jablonski’s accomplishment in being able to participate in All State Band 2023. We are looking forward to future accomplishments.
