In the last three years, there have been many prolific celebrity lawsuits including Johnny Depp’s defamation trial and Britney Spear’s conservatorship hearing.  But now, another high profile actor has come under fire, Gwyneth Paltrow.  In 2016, it was claimed that Paltrow knowingly skid into, and left without help,  Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, at Deer Valley Resort in Park City Utah.  The lawsuit states that the mental and physical injuries sustained because of the collision required compensation of more than $300,000. Sanderson testified that he “got hit in my back so hard and right at my shoulder blades and it felt like it was perfectly centered and the fists and the poles were right at the bottom of my shoulder blades, serious, serious smack and I’ve never been hit that hard.” Paltrow claimed in response that Sanderson was using her fame to file a frivolous lawsuit for an amount that was far too great for the accidental collision.  She sued Sanderson for $1.

The final verdict went in the favor of Paltrow.  She stated, “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity.”  While taking advantage of celebrities may seem profitable, this case showed that it was anything but for the accuser.  Read more about the case at AP News.
