Carowinds: Spring Break thrills

Carowinds: Spring Break thrills

Apollo Ollmann, Staff Writer

Carowinds, one of the amusement parks in the Cedar Fair chain, is one of the best places to visit during Spring Break. Located on the border of both North and South Carolina, it has many popular roller coasters and flat rides that families and thrill seekers alike would enjoy.

The main attractions of the park are its roller coasters. Many of these are iconic. Fury 325 with its majestic hills and twists, Copperhead Strike with its infamous loops and out of control feel, and Intimidator with its great memorial to the deceased NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt. These coasters are some of the best I’ve ridden and some of the greatest on the East Coast. Not every roller coaster at Carowinds is world class though. The worst coaster is Hurler, a wooden coaster themed to a concept in the movie Wayne’s World. This coaster is rough and in need of a makeover.

Carowinds also has a bunch of rides that aren’t roller coasters. These are known as flat rides and they are great fillers for when you aren’t riding any coasters. A favorite of mine is Drop Tower, which takes you up 176 feet into the air and drops you all the way down in seconds. Another great ride is the Scrambler, a ride that spins you around super fast. Another favorite is the Electro Spin, a ride that spins you all over the place and makes you feel like you are going upside down when in reality you aren’t.

Carowinds is a great pick for someone that is looking for somewhere to go during Spring Break. With great rides that are some of the pinnacles of amusement park design, it is a must do on your bucket list. On top of it all, the gimmick of it being in both Carolinas is fun and clever. In all, go to Carowinds if you want to have a great time.
