On Monday May 23, the Seymour High School Marching Owls and Guard had their awards banquet. Celebrating all the students and especially celebrating the seniors and all that they have accomplished. Certificates were handed out to the Freshmen, Chevrons were given to the Sophomores, Juniors were awarded with Varsity Letters, and Seniors got plaques and their pink graduation cords. The drum majors were also announced for the upcoming season for SMOG and these include returning drum major Lucas Jablonski and three new additions being incoming Juniors Audrey Newkirk, Aubri Engle, and Katie Cottrill all will work together to help lead the Marching Owls.

As we near the end of the school year, the band students are looking forward to the annual Disney trip. The students have been slowly getting ready and packed for the big days ahead. The itinerary includes the following:

Friday- 1 p.m send off at SHS, Saturday- Breakfast at the HUB then headed off to Animal Kingdom, Sunday- Magic Kingdom and at 6 the band will perform in the parade around Disney, Monday- Aquatica, Sea-Worlds water park, and Disney Springs, Tuesday- Hollywood Studios, and Wednesday (being the final day in Florida) EPCOT. The band will be playing a Mellencamp Medley. If you are ever bored at 6 pm on Sunday Night you can view the parade on the Seymour Bands Facebook livestream.

The students have been putting in the work all year, from the beginning of marching band season to the end of concert band. They have been waiting ever since the first Disney meeting in October. It’s finally turning a reality for the band.
