February 6, 2024, a man was arrested for robbing the Brownstown branch of Jackson County Bank. He held a woman at gunpoint and demanded money. The employee sounded the alarm at about 2:30 pm, and the Brownstown Police arrived shortly after.
When the officers arrived, the suspect had already gotten away with about $900, but he didn’t get far. He left on foot but later got into a car with two other women and was eventually stopped. When the police stopped him, he got out of the car holding a gun and the money. The suspect dropped the gun and was taken in by the police. The suspect was arrested on a preliminary charge of a level 3 felony, and the two women were released.
A bank employee said, “I was scared to death. After the robber left we sort of freaked out, and kinda just like broke down and collected our thoughts.” The witness explained that the robber spoke a lot, but his comment that “he was sorry and just trying to feed his family” really stuck with her. When asked if she thought the suspect seemed to be under the influence of a substance, she said yes.
The investigation is ongoing, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
