On Thursday, 9/5, the Seymour Owls defeated conference opponent Bedford North Lawrence to improve to 8-1 on the season. The Owls defeated the BNL Stars by a score of 5-0 and put on a show for the home crowd. The Owls’ 5-0 win was their first sweep of the season and moved them to 3-0 in conference play.
The Owls dominated on all levels against the Stars, especially during singles. Senior Parker Thompson swept the No.1 singles, sophomore Carter Stein swept the No.2 singles, and freshman Dane Thompson swept the No.3 singles.
The doubles were more competitive, but the Owls still had complete control over the game. Junior Shun Takeuchi and senior Joel Stevens swept the No.1 doubles, while seniors Xavier DuBois and Griffin Eggers swept the No.2 doubles. This was senior Griffin Eggers’s first varsity win of his career, which was huge for the team and himself.
It’s impressive what the Owls’ are doing with such a young team. Whatever coach Stein is doing, he’s doing it right. Owls’ Tennis has been good for years, but this team looks different.
After starting 0-1, the Owls have won eight straight games, including three straight conference wins. This team is really solid and will have a good test against Silver Creek on Friday, 9/6.
The Owls will be back home on Monday, 9/9, against Columbus North.
