‘Tis the season for buying ridiculous things that no one needs, because Black Friday has hit and Christmas is almost here! But to understand the cultural and economic phenomenon known as Black Friday, one must look back to its roots.

Black Friday first started in 1962 as a nationwide sale in the United States as a way to get rid of excess product that would otherwise not sell. The unexpected success in selling products at 90% off quickly became a trend that would later evolve into the Black Friday  American’s know today.

But enough about the history junk, let’s get to the deals!

On the subject of gaming, this year’s Black Friday was the best in recent years for Sony Playstation sales with a whopping 50 million consoles now sold after Black Friday and reports have been received that many stores across the nation had actually run out of consoles in the midst of Black Friday!

The top seller overall this year, and no one would have guessed this one, are guns! That’s right, guns! Gun sales during Black Friday reached a new all-time record, with the FBI reporting that they received 203,086 background-check requests from firearm dealers across the nation, which beats the previous record set in 2015 with 185,713 requests that Black Friday.
