Canucks on top of the NHL once again

Canucks on top of the NHL once again

For the first time since the 2011-12 season, the Vancouver Canucks are in first place in the NHL and are currently 2 points above the Florida Panthers who stand in second place. The canucks started off the first month of the hockey season 6-2-1. This was an improvement from last season where they started 2-8 in the first month. In the following months, the Canucks kept having a winning record each month even beating some of the best teams in the league like, Tampa Bay, Edmonton, and Florida.

The Canucks roster is full of amazing talent that has helped them reach that number-one spot. The canucks are number 9 in points from the top 6 forwards. The canucks have 3 forwards in the top 11 for goals: Brock Boeser tied for 8th with 31 goals, Elias Petterson in a three-way tie for 9th with 29 goals, and J.T Miller tied for 11th with 27th goals. Elias Petterson is also 10th in most points with 72 points! The canucks also just acquired Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames and he already has 6 points in just 8 games played.

The Canucks have one the best defenses in the league and are also number 5 in points from defenders. Canucks’ defender Quinn Hughes is the front-runner for the James Norris Memorial Trophy and is a top-ten contender for the Hart Trophy. Quinn Hughes has 68 points in 57 games played and leads the league in +/- ratings with a rating of +34. Another defender who has been playing amazingly for the Cancuks is Filip Hronek who has 42 points in 57 games and is tied for 9th place for most points out of all the defenders with 42 points.

The Cancuks will most likely make the playoffs and instantly be a heavy favorite to lift the Stanley Cup. The Canucks have never won a Stanley Cup, and the last time they were in the finals was in 2011. So will the Vancouver Canucks finally bring the Stanley Cup home and give their fans what they have been waiting for for ages? Only time will tell, but as of now, they look like a heavy favorite.
