Many soccer fans online were surprised this week after FIFA appeared to shift attention away from Jelly Roll’s World Cup song toward Shakira’s new song, “Dai Dai.” Fans across social media have been debating the change, with many saying Shakira’s music fits the emotions and excitement of the World Cup better.
Earlier this year, Jelly Roll and Carín León released a song connected to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, many fans criticized the song online because they felt it sounded more like a country radio song instead of an exciting international soccer anthem. Soon after, FIFA announced Shakira’s new song “Dai Dai” featuring Burna Boy as the official World Cup song for 2026.
Shakira is already known for her past World Cup songs, include “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which became one of the most famous soccer songs of all time. Because of this, many fans were excited to see her return for the 2026 tournament.
On social media, some fans even joked that “Shakira saved the World Cup,” after hearing the announcement. Many people online claimed they were less excited for the tournament when Jelly Roll’s song was first released, but became more interested again after FIFA promoted Shakira’s song.
