While the Varsity Boys Basketball team has had a tough 0-2 start to the season, the JV Boys Basketball team has picked up its slack, getting off to a 2-0 start in the young season. It may be a different set of competition, but it’s always a good sign when your JV team is good. Let’s take a look at how the Owls have started this season and who has fueled this hot start for them.
Game 1: Seymour 43, Corydon 17
Leading Scorers: (Fr) Ethan Alcock- 19, (So) Dane Thompson- 10, (So) Braylon Floyd- 8, (Fr) Bryson Terrell- 4, (So) Cash Stein- 2
The Owls held the Panthers to zero points in the first quarter and five for the first half. They also allowed only two points in the fourth quarter. Lockdown defense all night.
Player of the Game: (Fr) Ethan Alcock
Game 2: Seymour 40, Franklin 34
Leading Scorers: (So) Braylon Floyd- 16, (Fr) Ethan Alcock- 14, (So) Dane Thompson- 4, (So) Grady Coates- 4, (Fr) Bryson Terrell- 2
This was a fun game to watch. While not many threes were dropping for either team, the Owls took advantage. Franklin played a tough zone all game, and Ethan Alcock was in the high post, finding cutters or creating his own buckets all game. Braylon Floyd showcased his shooting ability, knocking down some big threes and clutch free throws. The Owls’ ability to stay disciplined was showcased in this game, while Franklin had some problems with that. I have to give a little shoutout as well. Freshman Bryson Terrell hit a big-time buzzer beater to end the first quarter. A nice mid-range bucket to end the quarter with some momentum was a game-changer for the Owls.
Player of the Game: (So) Braylon Floyd
The Owls have looked great to start the season, and so far, they have played as a really well-coached team with a lot of potential. You can hear JV head coach Jeff Nicholson talk about discipline all the time. It’s something he really preaches. That’s hard to get from a high school team, but Nicholson is doing a great job.
Get out there and support your Owls. Maybe even show up early to a Varsity game and catch some JV basketball. The next Varsity and JV games are scheduled for December 12th, at home against Jeffersonville. Show up and support your Owls.
Owls Will.
