The Seymour Owls have finally found their groove, winning four straight games. The Owls now have a 6-8 record on the year (4-2 Conference), and are looking like they have finally turned their season around for the better. Let’s take a look at how they went on this winning streak.

The Owls dominated the Stars in every aspect of this game. They shot 49.0% from the field compared to BNL’s 38.5%, they scored 19 points off turnovers to BNL’s 9, and they only turned the ball over 4 times to BNL’s 14. Seymour completely dominated this game from start to finish, and this was a game to be proud of.
Player of the Game: (Sr) Nate Fritsch
1/24: Seymour 54, Scottsburg 45
Leading Scorers: (Jr) Lakoda Leavy- 20 Pts, 10 Reb, 1 Ast, (Sr) Nate Fritsch- 15 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, (Jr) Gage Hillian- 14 Pts, 5 Reb, 2 Stl, (Jr) Carter Stein- 5 Pts, 1 Reb, 1 Ast
In a game where Scottsburg made 7 more threes than the Owls, Seymour still found a way to defeat the Warriors through grit and grind. Seymour scored 36 points in the paint compared to Scottsburg’s 18. That dominance in the paint has won the Owls many games over the years, and it will continue to win games. This game proved that even when the threes aren’t falling, the Owls are a hard team to beat.
Player of the Game: (Jr) Lakoda Leavy
1/30: Seymour 49, Floyd Central 45
Leading Scorers: (Sr) Nate Fritsch- 18 Pts, 5 Reb, 2 Ast, (Jr) Lakoda Leavy- 13 Pts, 8 Reb, 2 Ast, (Jr) Gage Hillian- 13 Pts, 5 Reb, 3 Ast, (Jr) Carter Stein- 5 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Stl
This was the definition of an Indiana high school basketball game. Both teams went a combined 3/20 from three, the refs were making some interesting calls, and the paint was crowded. Lakoda Leavy got the Owls started off hot, hitting several mid-range jumpers to set the tone. After taking the lead, the Owls had many methodical possessions, taking precious time away from the Highlanders. It’s how Seymour plays, and it wins games. The score was closer than the game really was. Some missed free throws allowed Floyd Central to claw back into the game, and after a few easy buckets in the paint, it was a two-point game with under 5 seconds remaining. A controversial foul call gave the Owls two free throws to ice the game, which they did. A hard-fought battle is always an advantage for the Owls, and that’s because of all the hard work they’ve put in.
Player of the Game: (Jr) Gage Hillian
This four-game stretch has completely changed the outlook of the Owls’ season; from 2-8 to 6-8 is a huge difference. The Owls know they can compete with any team in the state; they just have to play their style. From the perspective of a fan/student, this winning streak has given us something to be excited about. Watch out for the Owls.
The Seymour Owls’ next game is on Thursday, Feb 5th, against the Madison Cubs @ Seymour High School. Tip-off is at 7:30 PM. Make sure you show up and support the Owls this season, and good luck for the rest of the season.
Owls Will.
