2025 SHS fall sports come to a close

Fall action has wrapped up, and it has been a great season of SHS sports. Let’s take a look at all the fall sports and how their seasons went.

Boys Soccer: The Owls finished with a 7-7-2 (3-3 Conference) record on the season, including wins over Silver Creek (6-1), Madison (3-1), and Lawrenceburg (2-0). The Owls faced the Floyd Central Highlanders in the first round of the sectional championship, losing a very tough battle 3-6 in overtime. The Owls fought hard all season and will be back even better next year.

Girls Soccer: The Lady Owls finished with a 5-11-1 (3-3 Conference) record on the season. They had some big wins over Columbus East (3-1), Bedford North Lawrence (7-2), and Salem (13-0). The Lady Owls received a first-round bye in the sectionals, then played Jennings County in the semifinals, defeating them 4-1, advancing to the sectional championship to play Floyd Central. The Lady Owls ended up being defeated by the Highlanders 4-0.

Football: The Owls finished with a 2-8 (2-4 Conference) record on the season. Though the Owls didn’t have the best season, they still had some great moments, like their two-game winning streak with wins over Jennings County (44-7) and New Albany (34-27). The Owls showed a lot of fight throughout the season, ultimately losing in the first round of sectionals to Whiteland (14-42). The Owls will be back next season, ready to play, bringing in an undefeated 8th-grade team from SMS. Thanks for a fun season.

Volleyball: The Lady Owls finished with a 14-15 (2-4 Conference) record. They showed a ton of upside, with great wins over Bloomington South (3-1), Madison (3-1), and Columbus North (2-1). The Owls played a competitive match against Providence in the first round of the sectionals, but it wasn’t enough to get past them, losing 3-1. The Lady Owls were such a fun team to watch this year, and they will be back, ready for more next season.

Boys Tennis: The Sectional Champion Owls finished with a 16-6 (7-1 Conference) record on the season. They had many great wins this season, including wins over Evansville North (3-2), Bedford North Lawrence (4-1), and Evansville Mater Dei (3-2). The Owls entered the sectionals with a ton of momentum and hype, drawing crosstown rival Brownstown in the first round. The Owls handled business, defeating Brownstown 5-0 and moving on to face Bedford North Lawrence in the semifinals. The Owls defeated BNL 4-1 and advanced to the sectional championship to challenge the Trinity Lutheran Cougars, where the Owls would win by a score of 4-1 to win their 4th straight sectional championship. Batesville eventually knocked out the Owls in the regionals, but that doesn’t take anything away from the great season the Owls had. Braylon Busby and Shun Takeuchi, #1 doubles, advanced deeper into regional play but never secured a regional champion status.

Girls Golf: The Lady Owls finished with an 8-3 (Nine-Hole Matches) and 37-33 (Eighteen-Hole Matches) record on the season. They played a great season, and their nine-hole record backed that up. The Owls finished second in the sectional with a round of 381, advancing to the IHSAA regionals at Country Oaks Golf Club in Montgomery. Finishing fourth in the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament, along with ending in third place at their home invitational at the beginning of the season, the Lady Owls had so many solid players this year, and you won’t want to miss next year. Emmy Followell was awarded the area’s golfer of the year.

Boys Cross Country: The Owls finished another fun season with many great results. Some big races included the Owls finishing 3rd out of 15 schools in the “Champ at the Amp” and finishing 1st out of 7 schools in the Ray Gerkin Invitational. When it came to the sectional, the Owls were on point, finishing 2nd out of 12 schools to advance to the regionals. While the regionals didn’t go as they wanted, finishing 14th out of 26 schools, the Owls still had a solid year and left nothing to hang their heads about.

Girls Cross Country: The Lady Owls had a great season with many memorable moments to celebrate. The Lady Owls had strong finishes this year, including 3rd out of 14 schools in the “Champ at the Amp” and finishing 1st out of 6 schools in the Ray Gerkin Invitational. When the sectionals rolled around, the Lady Owls were ready, finishing 3rd out of 10 schools to advance to the regionals. The girls fell just short of qualifying for the state finals, finishing 9th out of 25 schools. Yet, individual runners, senior AnnMarie Schuler and freshman Chloe Joblonski, both qualified for state and will be competing on November 1st. It was a great season for the Lady Owls.

Thanks to all the Seymour athletes and coaches for providing everyone with great fall action, but now it’s time to move on to winter sports. Don’t miss it.
