A quick start boosted Seymour to a 58-51 conference win last Saturday night against the Columbus East Olympians.

The Owls began the game on a 22-2 run, scoring on all but one of its first 9 possessions. Despite the early run, however, the Olympians bounced back. Junior Olympian Tyler Boyer scored a quick basket and knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 16 and end the Seymour run.

East finished the first half on an 8-2 run, but Seymour still possessed a 24-15 lead.

The Owls’ lead grew to 12 midway through the third quarter before the Olympians scored 6 answered points, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Crase Bergman. Throughout the final quarter, East chipped away at the Seymour lead. A Daniel Murphy put-back with 30 seconds to go cut the deficit to just one point.

Seniors Colin Madden and Eric McCoy each hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to effectively put the game to rest.

The Owls had two double-digit scorers, Eric McCoy with 16 points and Casey Regruth with 13.
