On April 9, 10, and 11, 2026, Seymour High School’s theater department put on a performance of The Miracle Worker, the highly revered play depicting the early life and education of deaf-blind writer Helen Keller. The cast was led by Megan Stout portraying Helen Keller, and Viviana Wilson as Helen’s teacher Annie Sullivan. In a statement given to The Owl, Viviana Wilson stated, “The Miracle Worker was a dream production of mine for a long time…. I like this play selection because it’s important and very real. I feel like being given the lead as a freshman was a great opportunity, and I am very proud of Megan and I for leading this cast in a good performance.”

The show was prepared with only four weeks of rehearsals and faced challenges due to malfunctioning curtains in the Earl D. Prout Auditorium. However, these limitations did not hinder the cast, who instead built their set around the faulty curtains and expanded the set into the floor of the auditorium. Bridget Deaton, who portrayed Helen’s mother Kate Keller claimed “[The short schedule] kept the cast on their toes while also giving us time to memorize our lines and blocking. I really liked the show and it felt like the perfect one for the cast we had. I don’t think I could think of anyone playing a different part. It was a really fun experience that I think everyone should get to be a part of at some point.”

Overall, despite the hectic weeks leading up to the show, the cast, crew, and audience were all satisfied with the production. Cast member Karlee Brewer claimed “I personally thought the show itself was amazing and I really enjoyed being a part of The Miracle Worker.” Over 190 attendees viewed the show at the Earl D. Prout Auditorium, with several returning for multiple performances. SHS staff member and assistant director Mrs. Miller was quoted as saying, “I am always impressed to see how much the show changes from the beginning of dress week and opening night. It’s wild to see students reading off of the book and then magically transform into a full show all memorized. I think this show went very well!”
