The conference matchup between Seymour’s baseball team and the New Albany Bulldogs was cancelled on Thursday night as poor weather plagued American Legion Field.

The game, originally scheduled for 6 pm, experienced a two-hour and three-minute delay due to lightning in the area before the first pitch was thrown.

At 8:03 pm, Louisville commit Tucker Biven led off for the Bulldogs, facing Owls’ lefty Aden Burnside. The southpaw started strongly, forcing a flyout from Biven. New Albany answered with two consecutive hits from juniors Garrett Jones and Landon Tiesing, the Bulldogs’ starting pitcher.

New Albany looked poised to score after a passed ball allowed the runner to advance to second and third, but Burnside ended the inning with two straight strikeouts.

After Charlie Longmeier struck out to start the bottom of the first inning for Seymour, Bret Perry reached first base when his line drive was dropped by leftfielder Chase Loesch. Perry then stole second and continued on to third after  Bulldog catcher Phil Gill’s wild throw went over the shortstop’s head.

Batting next for the Owls was senior Brayden Wilson, who had his at-bat cut short due to more lightning, and after only 16 minutes of game action, the contest was cancelled.
