Beabadoobee: A Rising Star

Emma Braman, Staff Writer

Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, famously known as Beabadoobee, is a Filipino-British singer-songwriter who has had recent success in her musical career. Bea moved to London at the age of three, where she grew up. She spent her teenage years listening to indie music, and learning to play violin and guitar. Bea claims that her musical influences include The Beatles, Mac DeMarco, Mazzy Star, Simon and Garfunkel, and many other artists.

Bea’s success started in September of 2017.  Releasing her first song, Coffee, made her gain over 300,000 views on YouTube. Her YouTube hit gained the attention of DIrty Hit Records, whom she signed with in April of 2018. Her first tour was a little over a year later, supporting Clairo on her Immunity Tour in September of 2019.

In 2019, Canadian rapper, Powfu, sampled Bea’s song, Coffee, in his single, Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head). The song became a massive hit on TikTok in early 2020, and soon became Beabadoobee’s first official chart entry. Bea wasn’t happy about Coffee getting recognition, saying, “I hated more people knowing about the first song I’d ever written and not my others. I was so stubborn but I grew into it and accepted that’s just how life works. I was extremely grateful for its existence and it’s only given me more opportunities

With two studio albums and twenty-one singles, Beabadoobee will be touring in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark starting in March 2023. Bea is also an opening act for Taylor Swift’s upcoming “The Eras Tour”.
