In the early hours of April 10th, 2023, Louisville Metro Police responded to a call regarding shots fired at an Old National Bank location, 333 East Main Street.

The shooter, Connor Sturgeon, was a 25-year-old employee of the bank. He opened fire on his employees Monday morning, killing five and injuring eight, including one officer responding to the scene.

Among those killed were Joshua Barrick, Juliana Farmer, Tommy Elliott, Deana Eckert, and James Tutt. Nickolas Wilt is a 26-year-old police officer who graduated just days before the shooting.

After receiving a gunshot to the skull, EMS rushed Wilt to the hospital, where he underwent brain surgery, says Chief Gwinn-Villaroel. According to WLKY news, “Officer Wilt is still in critical condition, and another person is stable, in fair condition.”
