The Owls’ baseball team took home the title of “Conference Champions” on Friday night. It was the bottom of the 12th inning and Seymour was locked in tight with a battle. Skyler Cockerham took his opportunity to be the hero. He hit the ball straight up the middle, and Vince Wilson scored. Cockerham’s walk-off won their first conference title.

Cockerham said, “I felt really calm and was just trying to do my job for the next guy.” Being calm in a situation with two outs and a runner in scoring position isn’t an easy task. But, by being calm and stepping up big, Cockerham got his hit. That hit gave Seymour their first conference win. Cockerham “knew how special it was not for the baseball team but for the community who supported [them] all night.”

Tim Perry explains that “the euphoria was indescribable” on winning the Hoosier Hills Conference.

Jeremy Richey, the head coach, said, “It was great for these young men that have done everything we have asked them to do.  We were pretty good last year, but they all bought into being better.  I am very proud of them for making that choice and they are being rewarded now for their decision to work harder.”
