Gina Morosey went to Seymour High school, where she was involved in Drama club, Newspaper, and later choir. After Graduating, she went to Ball State University for Musical Theater and Microbiology. She moved to Switzerland, and became a finalist on Switzerland’s Got Talent. A Place Called The Tree is her debut novel, and she hopes everyone enjoys it!
What is the story about? Here’s the synopsis: At Tipton High, choir kids are rich and popular, the drama club is for the loner kids; they don’t mix. Choir is Choir and Drama is Drama, so when Leah Roy sees the choir at auditions, she isn’t happy. Drama club is her world, it’s where she can become a character and escape real life. Brandon, a popular choir kid, gets a leading role with Leah in hopes he can get to know her better. Leah and Brandon might just find they are more alike than they thought, coming together to help each other through everyday life.
Gina came to the high school for the first time during SRT on December 14th. She introduced the book and how much it means to her. She also told us what it was like to go to this school. Gina was actually one of Mrs. Prange’s students, back when she was an English teacher. She came back during winter break to hear what everyone thought of the book. We discussed the pressure and stress students feel from school, parents, and everyday life, and she shared something she wrote for us, “Life really begins when we begin to love ourselves. When we love ourselves, we believe we deserve to forgive people. We believe we deserve to be treated right. And we will no longer tolerate anything less than that. We believe we deserve to treat ourselves right number one. We believe we absolutely deserve the best out of life. We believe we can make our dreams come true no matter how unattainable they may seem. We believe we can get to the other side of fear, every time fear hits us. We believe even when we fall we can get back up, every single time, and every time we will be stronger. We believe we deserve, truly deserve that compliment and survive the comfortableness of it. We believe we deserve love and we believe we deserve all the good and wonderful things that happen to us every single day.” She is very grateful for everyone that read her book.
What did I personally think of the book? I have read a lot of books over the past couple of years. Most have been good books but not many have been AMAZING books. The kind of books you continue to think about and remember the emotion you felt. This was one of those books. I sat and read it in one day, and I loved how well life was described throughout the book. I also liked how relatable it was. My favorite part however was seeing Leah grow and love herself more from the beginning to the end. I would recommend this to really anyone that wants a good story. I can’t wait for the sequel, Letters in Mississippi, which comes out in 2024.
I hope everyone will pick up a copy and let the story take you to its own world. When you finish this book you will learn so much about self-acceptance. I hope you enjoy it!
