The high school basketball season is almost over, and there are only 2 more games left in the regular season for the Owls. The Owls go on the road for their final two games of the year, including games at Shelbyville and Silver Creek. The Owls are 16-4 on the season and will look to move to 18-4 against two tough teams on the road. But now let’s get to the sectionals draw.
The Owls got an unfortunate draw in the first round of the sectionals, having to face off against the Jeffersonville Red Devils. Jeffersonville is 13-7 and 5-1 in conference play, with their only conference loss coming at the hands of the Owls. Jeffersonville is like Superman and Seymour is their kryptonite.
This should be a great game with a great crowd. The Owls will get the home-court advantage with the sectionals taking place at Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium. Seymour is led by Juniors Brady Harpe and Jaylan Johnson. On the other side, Jeffersonville is led by 3 stud Juniors including 6 foot 8 Tre Singleton, Michael Cooper, and P.J. Douglas. Jeffersonville has a talented roster with a lot of really tall players, including 6’8 Junior Tre Singleton, 6’4 Junior Ray Laird, 6’4 Junior P.J Douglas, and 6’3 Junior Michael Cooper. Seymour on the other side will have to fight through a lot of adversity with their tallest player being only 6’2.
The last time these two teams faced off against each other Seymour ended up hitting a game-winning three-pointer with time expiring. Both teams have improved drastically since the last time they played. Jeffersonville has scored 64 points or more in 9 out of their last 11 games, and in those 11 games, they are 8-3. Seymour on the other hand is 14-2 in their last 16 games, and in that run, they have held their opponents under 46 points in 14 out of those 16 games. This game will be a mix of an elite offense and an elite defense.
If Seymour defeats Jeffersonville they will play the Floyd Central Highlanders in the 2nd round of the sectionals. Seymour’s season has been surprising, to say the least, and it is nowhere close to over. Let’s show up and support our Owls during the sectionals. Owls Will
