In modern times, online delivery is one of the most common ways to purchase items, and Amazon is undeniably the largest supplier of deliveries. 40% of the U.S. e-commerce market is controlled by Amazon, and 28% of all packages shipped in America last year came from the site. Recently however, the city of Seymour, Indiana has faced trouble with Amazon’s deliveries, with many taking up to 2 weeks to arrive when Amazon claimed delivery within a few days.
The site’s Prime subscription promises 2 day deliveries, but many residents of Seymour have claimed their Prime orders took 2 weeks to be delivered. Strangely, smaller communities just outside of Seymour are receiving packages on time, but addresses in the 47274 ZIP code of Seymour are being delivered late. Many previously loyal customers in the city are now cancelling their subscriptions to Prime. A group on Facebook called “Prime 47274” has amassed over a thousand members, all of which are reporting similar issues with delivery speed.
On December 10, 2025, Emmy-winning journalist Rafael Sánchez of FOX59 News met with multiple Seymour residents at Moxie Coffee Company to discuss the Amazon delivery issues and bring more media attention to the situation. While Amazon is yet to give a response to the concerned group of Seymour citizens, they are offering refunds to customers disappointed with Prime’s untimely services. State Representative Jim Lucas posted in the Facebook group on December 9 claiming that he spoke with an Amazon representative who told him “we are now devoting more resources to our area and we should start seeing much better service.”
The delay of Amazon deliveries to Seymour is stressful for many residents, but local businesses have taken it as an opportunity to increase local sales. Audie Jayne Boutique has already made public social media posts declaring it would have items available for same day delivery. Many citizens of Seymour, as well as Rafael Sánchez, have promoted the idea of shopping locally to combat the slow deliveries from Amazon and other large sellers.
