Fruits and vegetables are both important parts of a healthy diet, but if I had to choose one, vegetables are the better option. While fruits are sweet and tasty, vegetables provide more long-term health benefits, less sugar, and more variety in meals, making them the stronger choice overall.
One reason vegetables are better than fruit is that they usually contain less sugar. Even though fruit sugar is natural, eating too much can still cause energy crashes. Vegetables like broccoli, spinach, and carrots provide steady energy without sudden spikes, which helps students stay focused throughout the school day.
Another advantage of vegetables is their creativity. Vegetables can be eaten raw, cooked, or mixed into many meals like salads, soups, and main dishes. This makes them easier to include in lunch and dinner. Fruits are often eaten alone and don’t always fit into full meals the same way vegetables do.
Some people argue that fruit is better because it tastes sweeter and is more enjoyable. While this may be true, taste should not be more important than health benefits. Veggies can also be made more appealing with seasonings, dips, or creative recipes, proving they don’t have to be boring.
Overall, both fruits and vegetables are healthy; vegetables are the better choice in my opinion. They provide steady energy, less sugar, and more meal options. If students wanted to choose one with better benefits, vegetables should be the top pick.
Ironically, I said that the tomato is my favorite vegetable. Turns out, it is a fruit, so maybe you should just eat what you want to eat. It’s all good.
