A new state law was passed on April 1st, 2026, that mandates Indiana schools to transition from five day weeks to four day weeks. The new law makes sure students are well rested and energized to learn during the shorter weeks. Students at Seymour High School can expect to have every Wednesday off, but other schools across the state will decide their own schedules.
Many states have already adopted this four-week system, such as Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico, and Arkansas. Indiana will be the newest to implement this change in the school system. One of the pioneers of this law has said that “We think Indiana kids could really use the break after the state-wide walkouts, but more importantly, they better have a great April Fool’s Day.”
